Working at GFDS

  • Kris Johnson

    Managing Principal

Inspired early in his career by working with icons such as Joseph Esherick and Lawrence Halprin, Kris has made the engineering of elegant buildings the core focus of GFDS. While transforming GFDS into its leadership roll today, Kris developed many architecturally driven solutions such as high-performance steel plate shear walls, in-plane steel brace gusset detailing, and special pultruded fiberglass sun shades. After hours, Kris can be found chasing waves, riding his road or mountain bike, or following his son's little league and daughter's dance careers. Kris is a licensed Structural Engineer in CA, HI, AZ, NV, and ID.

  • David Kallmeyer

    Principal

David’s enthusiasm brings design teams together to realize their visions and to create great architectural projects. He instills innovative and confident structural engineering to every design, always with an eye out for simpler and more elegant ways to design and build structures. David works to ensure that GFDS plays a leading role on projects so that design team members achieve success. David holds an MS in Structural Engineering from UC Davis, a BS in Civil Engineering from Ohio State, and a California Professional Civil Engineer’s License. David spins off excess energy by competing in soccer, cycling and skiing in the mountains of California, and running the trails of Marin. Life with his wife and three daughters is filled with soccer coaching, school projects, and general mayhem in the great outdoors.
